Hosta

Hostas for magnificent shade foliage

Hostas are well known and loved shade plants, forming a wonderful foliage focus for the garden. Their leaves are typically broad and oval, and these plants usually produce flowers on spikes, either white or lilac in colour. Our range has been chosen for striking leaf shapes and in the case of the magnificent 'Empress Wu' for extreme size, this being the world's largest Hosta and a great talking point in the garden. Hostas originate from China and Japan mainly, and were originally noted for being edible particularly the younger shoots and leaves. This might help explain why the number one challenge in growing them is to keep slugs and snails at bay! This is important to get the best out of your hostas particularly in the spring when these pests are especially prevalent
