Gaillardia Red Sun
Gaillardias are commonly known as ‘Blanket Flowers’ after the colourful blankets of the Native people of the Americas. These relatives of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) are extremely drought tolerant and tough for those hot and dry areas of the garden and may even thrive in coastal areas or poor soil conditions. Gaillardia ‘Red Sun’ is a striking new hybrid with hot orange-red sun like flowers massed over a compact foliage mound of green lance-like leaves. Flower period is up to 6 months from late Spring through Autumn providing vibrant and eye-catching summer colour.
Gaillardias are tough and extremely easy care. Soil conditions preferred are moist well drained soil, but they will tolerate drought and even sandy conditions well. Hardy and forgiving of poor growing conditions. Relatively fast to establish.
